🛖 Our Base - Escape 3 Points Ecolodge
Welcome to our home away from home!
During the main part of our scientific expedition, we will be living and working at the Escape 3 Points Ecolodge. This unique eco-resort is located directly at Cape Three Points, the southernmost tip of Ghana, right where the Atlantic Ocean meets the last coastal rainforest in the country.
☀️ Living Off the Grid
Escape 3 Points is not your typical hotel. It features very rustic, eco-friendly accommodations designed to blend into the surrounding nature. The entire lodge runs entirely on solar energy, emphasizing deep sustainability and environmental responsibility. For us, this means experiencing a true "off-the-grid" lifestyle while focusing 100% on our research.
🤝 Our Partners: Ghana Instinct
The lodge is owned and operated by Akwasi McLaren, a Canadian-Ghanaian architect, and his wife Kety. Together, they founded the local NGO "Ghana Instinct." Akwasi and Kety have dedicated their lives to combining sustainability with local community empowerment. Their projects focus on practical conservation, making them the perfect partners for our research team.
🥚 The Sea Turtle Hatchery & Sanctuary
One of the most incredible initiatives at Escape 3 Points is their dedicated sea turtle hatchery and protection program. Akwasi and Kety work tirelessly to protect the nesting beaches from poaching and environmental threats. By engaging both international visitors and local community members in hands-on conservation work, they ensure a safe environment for the turtles.
This sanctuary will be the heart of our operations. From here, we will launch our night patrols, conduct our vital research work inside the hatchery, and carry out our satellite tagging operations.
